Touting the Trump Tax bill- claiming it reduced taxes for people in the district- while strictly true- is misleading. Middle class and lower tax rates decreased by 1.5% and less, while the top 1% saw decreases of 15%. I’m not sure how many people in CNY that actual “helped”
Not to mention that a vast majority of all voters in fact support HIGHER taxes on the wealthy- the group that benefitted the most from the Tax Cuts- really “representative” of him! (Mind you the below is a Fox News poll! A majority of Republicans favor higher taxes for the rich)
Next, the idea that the HEROES act, which provided much needed relief to local and state govts, more PPP for businesses, relief for individuals was a partisan bill- and just a “bridge too far” for Republicans? As if they have any kind of moral or reasonable argument to oppose?
The House passed the bill in May- while McConnel in the Senate would not consider it, negotiate, or propose an alternative until nearly September. The wasted time by shuttered how many businesses? How many accrued missed rent and utility payments? Couldn’t feed their families?
It was craven politics by ONE side. The GOP is the party “standing on the sidelines”, who still will not consider a deal even w Trump in support. To frame THIS as “bipartisanship” gives the word no meaning. There are not 2 sides worth weighing when one side is acting in bad faith
For Katko “bipartisanship” means “I look reasonable by comparison, and ever so often vote with the other side (on bills that would have passed anyway), but rarely question my own parties priorities or tactics”. He votes with Trump 75% of the time.
If you factored in the partisan split in the district you’d predict him to vote with Trump only 40% of the time- but no- he truly is a party man. Just because he puts a “nice” face on it, and isn’t a conspiracy theorist doesn’t make him much different than his fellow GOP.
The final point the Ed board makes to try to sell the endorsement that he has experience there to affect change is laughable: Having our Rep be in the minority party is to have zero leverage at all crafting policy and priorities in the coming congress.
And how a man who has in 2020 ( ! ) Not 2016, decided to endorse Trump after 4 years of disastrous policies for your average American is going to “help heal the country”, then I truly want whatever the http://Syracuse.com  editorial board is smoking.
@dana_balter , far from being the “far left” supports policies the MAJORITY of Americans do- healthcare for all, police reforms, fighting climate change, raising the minimum wage- all policies that would pay dividends to the citizens of #NY24. Katko does not represent us #vote
