As Israel-Sudan announce normalization, once again this epic moment in history is being downplayed by some usual suspects. They say that the deal is insignificant as it happened under Trump & Kushner. They also said the same thing about deals between UAE, Bahrain, Israel.
Firstly, Sudan & Israel have been actually at war. So it is a big deal that Sudan has come this far from the 3 Nos of Khartoum. Sudan has supported terrorism including against Israel in the past. It hosted terror groups & was a Bin Laden ally. Sudan has made progress since then.
Sudan knows that good ties with Israel are in its national interests. More importantly, Sudanese security establishment also fully understands this and supports normalization with Israel. Israel on the other hand knows the importance of these changes in Sudan & will embrace Sudan
Secondly, whatever you think about Trump and Kushner, you have to understand that UAE, Bahrain, Sudan normalization with Israel (and the deals to come in future) is something that has bipartisan support in US. It is something that Biden & Democrats will also continue to support.
Having said all that, it is important not to downplay the importance of these peace deals, especially the one that is to be signed between Sudan and Israel. They are good for the whole region and they will bring security, stability and economic prosperity to the entire region.
Middle East analysts who have been disastrously wrong about Middle East obviously have a lot of explaining to do. But I doubt they have anything good to say at this point except downplaying the significance of these peace deals. They are a bitter bunch these days.
These peace deals and those yet to come in near future will also eventually bring peace for Palestinians, who have been betrayed by their own corrupt leadership which is more interested in extorting billions of $$ in donations from the international community than anything else.
