Ok so here’s my ao3 analysis of each BTS pairing looking at top/bottom and a/b/o dynamics. I intentionally only looked at alpha/omega bc that’s what is typically written. I will do a separate analysis including alpha/beta, beta/omega, alpha/alpha and omega/omega.

One thing to note is that I did not filter out otp:true pairings, so the results you see for total # of fics includes every fic that has that pairing as a tag. I do plan to run a separate analysis filtering for just the true pairings.

Oh also beta/beta. Can’t forget them.

When looking at top/bottom, I excluded any fics where a member might have been tagged as both (such as in verse fic).

Example for Jin x Yoongi: for top jin x bottom yoongi, I INCLUDED top jin and bottom yoongi but EXCLUDED bottom jin and top yoongi.

For % of fics per ship, I used a total # of 130,947 fics published in English at the time.

For % of a/b/o fics per ship, I used a total # of 6,228 fics published in English w/ the alpha/beta/omega dynamics tag at the time.

Now, let's look at some charts. Here we have a histogram of # Total Fics vs. Pairings and a pie chart of % of Total Fics vs. Pairings. You will notice that 2seok, Jinmin, and Taejoon are the pairings w/ the least % of Total Fics with 1.2%, 1.3%, and 1.5%, respectively.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Jin pairing. Unsurprisingly, Namjin is the most popular pairing of the six with Yoonjin coming in second and Jinkook coming in third.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Yoongi pairing. Unsurprisingly, Yoonmin is the most popular pairing of the six with Sope coming in second and Yoonkook coming in third.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Hoseok pairing. Unsurprisingly, Sope is the most popular pairing of the six with Jihope coming in second and v-hope coming in third.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Namjoon pairing. Unsurprisingly, Namjin is the most popular pairing of the six with Minjoon coming in second and Namgi coming in third.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Jimin pairing. Unsurprisingly, Yoonmin is the most popular pairing of the six with Jikook coming in second and vmin coming in third. I have to admit that as a vmin enthusiast, I'm a little surprised that it's behind Jikook.

Here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Taehyung pairing. Unsurprisingly, Taekook is the most popular pairing of the six with vmin coming in second and Taegi coming in third.

Lastly, here is a breakdown of the % of Total Fics vs. Jungkook pairing. Unsurprisingly, Taekook is the most popular pairing of the six with Jikook coming in second and Yoonkook coming in third.

Now, let's compare top/bottom dynamics for each member by pairing.

This stacked histogram shows that there are more fics written with Jin as a bottom when paired with Namjoon than with any other member.

This stacked histogram shows that there are more fics written with Yoongi as a top when paired with Jimin than with any other member. Similarly, there are more fics written with Yoongi as a bottom when paired with Hoseok than with any other member.

As can be inferred from the previous tweet, this histogram shows that there are more fics written with Hoseok as a top when paired with Yoongi than with any other member. There are also more fics with him written as a bottom when paired with Yoongi than with any other member.

What does this mean? My guess is that the Sope writing community prefers to write both members as verse.

This stacked histogram shows that there are more fics written with Jimin as a bottom when paired with Jungkook than with any other member. This surprises me because I was expecting there to be more bottom Jimin in Yoonmin fics.

Sidenote: What's up with the lack of top Jimin content, huh???

This stacked histogram shows that there are more fics written with Taehyung as a top when paired with Jungkook than with any other member. Similarly, there are more fics written with Jungkook as a bottom when paired with Taehyung than with any other member.

Lastly, this stacked histogram shows that there are more fics written with Jungkook as a top when paired with Jimin than with any other member. Coming right behind that are fics with Jungkook paired with Taehyung.

What does this say about the Taekook writing community? In my opinion, it says that they enjoy writing Taekook as verse.
