Akito (furuba) + Izaya (drrr): a thread. credit to @Aleczandxr because of his izaya video. Tbh if it wasn't for that this idea wouldn't have come to me so. is his vid if u want to watch
I was thinking ab Akito and how she's one of my favorite antagonists, then I thought ab how
Izaya is also one of my favorite antagonists. Then I thought hmm they're kinda
similar? So I wrote a thread.
The first thing I realized when I started thinking about these two characters is, their “foes”
actually represent the same thing to them. When I say foes I mean Tohru and Shizuo. Tohru
and Shizuo aren’t really similar in personality or anything, but when it comes to what they
represent to Akito and Izaya, the parallels are there. They are both easily well-liked and valued
by the people around them. They don’t come across as though they don’t “fit in” or as if they’re
insecure about their self worth. (Which is ironic, because Tohru actually has the
same fear that Akito does - abandonment. She simply goes about handling it a different way
that doesn’t harm others) Akito and Izaya have little to no control over these characters nor do
they possess the same charisma that they do.
That’s very vexing to both of them, since manipulating others is their forte and all they wish is to
be accepted by those around them. Izaya claims that he manipulates others because he “loves”
humans and their unpredictability. He gets a thrill out of correctly predicting their
actions. But, that is just a coping
mechanism to distract himself from the fact that he is unable to fit in with “humans.” It’s not that
he’d rather stay separate from them, it’s that he’s unable to have them accept
him. He chooses to refer to them as “humans,” to make it seem like he’s purposely removed
himself from them. The point is, he’s lonely.
Akito is also lonely, however her coping mechanism is different from Izaya's. Instead of
removing herself, she traps others in with her, forces them to be with her for fear that they would
abandon her if they had the free choice to do so. (That is probably why she is so attached
to Kureno, who stays by her side despite being the only zodiac who is free). She constantly
verbally abuses and manipulates the zodiacs to keep them in line. Whereas Izaya protects his
pride by voluntarily distancing himself from society before they can distance themselves from
him, Akito protects her pride by tearing down others to the point they feel they have no choice
but to stay by her side. Orihara likes to be the hand that simply knocks down the first domino
and withdraws, watching them fall one after another. Akito likes to be the quicksand that
drags people down with her, unable to escape. Shizuo is the domino that always falls the wrong
way. Tohru is the hand that gently pulls you out of the quicksand. They’re unpredictable and
interfering. They seem to effortlessly have what Akito and Orihara so desire without
resorting to underhanded and self-deceiving methods.
End of thread ty for getting all the way here if you did. I could write more but... I doubt many people will see this anyways. But please comment your thoughts on akito and Izaya if you have any 😁
