lol no teams but just about every club you can think of. Business Professionals of America, Art Club, Key Club, Drama Club, Debate Club, Honor Society, this nerdy club where we got together and talked about our feelings and art that was literally called The Dead Poet's Society - https://twitter.com/MissDahlELama/status/1319738610673999872
How could I forget Student Council!! (the big one) I know this will come as a big shock but I was a JOIN'er and I loved being social, hanging out with people, performing, and creating. Oh and me and my friends were absolutely the "popular" clique that "ran everything" Surprise!
we had this thing where before Senior Year we all got together and portioned out the clubs and decided who would get to be president of each one. Like sure we had to be "elected" but everyone basically did whatever we said so...

that's how I ended up President of the Art Club?
I was a Mean Girl.

I know, I know.
and our ENTIRE goal was to get AS MANY ENTRIES AS POSSIBLE in the senior yearbook for what clubs you had belonged to. So, being popular at my high school was really tied to that visibility and ... flex.
But, really, for me, the entire goal was leading to one thing: getting elected Senior Class President. We had all taken turns with different offices in student council but we knew, since we were freshmen, Senior Class President was GOING TO BE MINE. But why?!
The Senior Class President got to give a speech at graduation. This was what I wanted more than anything. I had been writing this profound, epic, legendary speech since I was 13 years old. It would be MY MOMENT.
I hope some of you know what happened next.

A charismatic, goofy SLACKER guy decided to challenge me for Senior Class President because me and my friends were so "high and mighty" and entitled.

And then .....
I think we all know what happens next in the YA novel.

In real life ... he won because a lot of people really hated me and my friends (lol surprise!) and then never showed up to a single student council meeting and I still got to run everything as UNELECTED PRESIDENT IN EXILE
"I never wanted to be class president, someone just had to show all of you." - actual thing he told me the day they announced the results (in morning annoucements, huge drama!)

I DID NOT GET TO GIVE THE SPEECH.

We did not end up falling in love because he was queer.
also no one was more pleased about this result than the senior class faculty sponsor: my mother.

"Told you little snobs there'd be consequences!"
many of you love this thread about my mom, which tells you exactly what she thought about how I behaved in high school and how she taught me more than I knew at the time by caring about the "poor kids" https://twitter.com/misskubelik/status/1108510774178312193
