myths and facts about drugs: a thread.
what are drugs? they are chemicals so when someone puts them into their body, either by smoking, injecting, inhaling, or eating them, they tap into the brain’s communication system and tamper with the way nerve cells normally send, receive, and process information.
different drugs—because of their chemical structures—work differently so we ( @1nti1 @cami_mamy & @PaoloRe254) will approach some of the most common types.
firstly, Tobacco, Nicotine, & Vaping. There are many chemicals found in tobacco leaves but nicotine is the one that can lead to addiction, it is considered a stimulant drug, which means it increases the CNS activity.
Are these products addictive? Yes, It is the nicotine that is addictive. Whether a person smokes products or uses smokeless forms, the amount of nicotine in it is enough to become addictive. So the person continues to them seek out even though he understands the harm it causes.
myth: Only a handful of dangerous toxins can be found in tobacco. Fact: the closest number is 250. At least 70 of them have been proven to cause cancer, that includes arsenic, and formaldehyde. The other 180, such as ammonia and hydrogen cyanide, are harmful to human body.
myth: cigarette smoking has been shown to only cause lung cancer. Fact: Although lung cancer is a devastating disease and is the most common cause of cancer death, only a quarter of the tobacco-related deaths yearly are from lung cancer.
Heart disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), other tobacco-related cancers and less common harmful effects such as premature birth and house fires are also attributed to smoking.
