the “immigrants make america great” is one of the best exemplars of, often well-meaning, liberals just completely missing the point, lol
the existence of the sociopolitical position of ‘immigrant’ in an imperial empire should beget interrogation of what sociopolitical imperatives are creating said ‘crisis’ in immigration? and, the racialization of the Other which socially &politically marks the ‘non/anti-citizen.’
i.e., why aren’t we interrogating the fact that most immigrant populations (specifically the non-white ones everyone actually hates) are from racialized and colonized nations that imperialist countries terrorize and dominate? why isn’t that connection being drawn?
what if, immigrants don’t, in fact, “make america great”—but instead, serve as the perfect exemplar of everything wrong w/this imperialist settler-colony that ravishes, dominates, and destroys, everything it touches; forcing natives of said ravaged nations to flee in-desperation?
