One thing I’ll always remember growing up is that Black people are always the “first to get killed” in #scarymovies. So since #Halloween is upon us, I’m going to pay homage to all the Black actors and actresses that survived a #Horror film. We’ve got a long way to go. Enjoy.

This thread starts off with Daniel Kaluuya. In @JordanPeele’s #GetOut, #DanielKaluuya plays Chris Washington, a African-American man who uncovers a disturbing secret when he meets the family of his white girlfriend. For his performance, Kaluuya received an #Oscars nomination.

Up next, Laurence Fishburne. In 1987’s #ANightmareOnElmStreetDreamWarriors, #LaurenceFishburne plays Max Daniels, an orderly at Westin Hills Hospital who is responsible for helping look after and secure the young patients suffering from nightmares.

@4everBrandy in #IStillKnowWhatYouDidLastSummer. In this film, #Brandy plays Karla Wilson, the roommate of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character, Julie James. The two “win” a trip to the Bahamas , only to deal with a hurricane and a vengeful fisherman, #BenWillis ( @MuseWatson).

Arguably, the very first Black actor to survive a horror film, Keith David from @TheHorrorMaster’s #TheThing. #KeithDavid plays the chief mechanic at a government research station in Antarctica. He discovers and adopts a death-defying canine only to find the animal is possessed.

A routine burglary turns into a discovery of murder, torture and incest. Next on the list, Brandon Adams as Fool in @wescraven’s #ThePeopleUnderTheStairs. The film follows Fool as he attempts to rob his menacing landlords, but what he discovers is more than he bargained for.

This next character was scripted to die. However, once the script was leaked on the internet, director @wescraven changed his fate. Duane Martin as Joel Jones from #Scream2. Once the dead bodies started piling up #DuaneMartin bounced and didn’t return until the film was over.

Although she didn’t survive as Maureen Evans in #Scream2, #JadaPinkettSmith did, however, make it all the way to the end in #TalesFromTheCryptDemonKnight. In the film, @jadapsmith plays one of a group of misfits hiding out in a church who fall prey to a super-evil Collector.

Jeremy Sylvers as Cadet Ronald Tyler from #ChildsPlay3. Once #TheLakeshoreStrangler realizes that he can’t possess the body of now teenager Andy Barclay, #Chucky sets his sights on a new target. That target, #JeremySylvers.

Up next, @Usher from #TheFaculty. The R&B Grammy-winning icon started his film career as a high school football player named Gabe Santora, who is terrorized by his teachers after they become possessed by aliens.

@lodivadevine. Proving that security guards do more than just bust the chops of petty vandals, #LorettaDevine plays Reese Wilson, a member of Pendleton University’s finest in #UrbanLegend. She reprised the role, and again, survived in the sequel #UrbanLegendsFinalCut.

@llcoolj as chef Sherman “Preacher” Dudley in #DeepBlueSea. The film follows a team of scientists and their research on sharks to help fight Alzheimer's disease. The situation plunges into chaos when multiple genetically engineered sharks go on a rampage and flood the facility.

Kasi Lemmons as Ardelia Mapp in the Oscarwinning film #TheSilenceOfTheLambs. This high-profile role marked the beginning of the end of her acting career. Shortly after appearing in #Candyman, she went on to direct such films as #TalkToMe #EvesBayou & #BlackNativity.

As a school security guard trying to protect the students and faculty from the blood-thirsty #MichaelMyers, @llcoolj makes his second appearance on this thread as Ronnie Jones. His character is accidentally shot and nearly killed, but #LLCoolJ manages to survive.

@icecube as Danny Rich in #Anaconda. The film focuses on a documentary film crew that are held captive by a snake poacher. As the anaconda devours each member of the crew on-by-one, it eventually comes down to #IceCube and @JLo to stop the South American reptile.
