Officially speaking, Jesus wasn’t killed because of anything that had to do with theology; he was killed because of the appearance of sedition and treason, he was killed because of intended insurrection against the state.

This is why the sign above his head read “The King of the Jews” this was mockery and an attempt to send a message to all Jewish people: there could only be one King, and the Jewish people didn’t have it, the Romans did.

He was killed because the religious leaders didn’t like their own power opposed so they rejected the claims of him as the messiah, and used that to speak of blasphemy. Jewish religious leaders could have stoned him, they tried several times, but it didn’t work.

A roman execution sent a much clear message.

In my opinion, the historical Jesus was simply killed because he opposed power. Like many before him, and many after him.

And those who oppose power are often those not enamored by it, those who have healed and feel safe enough, that they don’t need to hoard power, but instead intentionally side with the marginalized, and call the powerful to account for choosing power over protecting the ppl.

If the Christ is divinity embodied, existing in the world as the ones we were created to be, not the ones we have been indoctrinated to show up as, or the ones our trauma dictates we must be. Then the Christ will always be opposed to societal power...

because it understands power is but a way to appease insecurities and fears. The Christ understands that power isn’t something you are given and that must be hoarded, instead power is something that comes from within, and brings about liberation and healing.
