Lot of people telling on themselves with this @expensify email. I'm part of a couple lawyer threads and conversations discussing it.

Some questions I have:

1. How do you square silence toward the Trump administration and supporting your minority employees and customers?
2. How do you square your often publicly professed corporate values and silence toward the Trump administration's actions and goals?

3. How do you square silence with the Trump admin and your loud exclamations of corporate support for #BlackLivesMatter and other groups?
4. How do you square silence toward the Trump admin with your Career and other HR programs loud support for diversity and equality?
Since I'm a privacy lawyer, it's ironic the shoe is on the other foot since I know some of you send out a lot of mass emails unwanted and use customer data in inappropriate manners. Should we talk about providing an email for a receipt and getting rolled into mass marketing DBs?
It's strange to me to hear educated elites (as the lawyers on these mailing lists are) talk staunchly about maintaining corporate neutrality in the face of the Trump admin's blatant corruption and attacks on democracy.
A lot of these companies represent tech companies that like to talk an awful lot about leadership as well. But when one of them actually exercises leadership, all of the sudden they get awful quiet.

Being a business leader means nothing if you're not also moral leader.
And a lot of these companies maintain corporate PACs and lobbyists to influence politicians. So all claims that companies should be politically neutral come up real fucking short and weak sauce.
There's a lot of peak privilege going on in these circles. The ones who know their gringo asses won't be targeted for voter suppression or ICE raids. I still remember warning my half-sister with a Hispanic last name to be careful in DULUTH MN bc ICE is up there too.
Take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.

PS - For those saying they're gonna terminate Expensify because of one email, that's a really obnoxious amount of engineering, sales, security, and IT effort to go through just because your panties are in a knot over an email.
For Concur, now trying to steal customers on the back of this, I see you. I'm not sure this is the message you really want to send.
For all the rest, your employees and your customers are watching to see how you respond now.

Congrats to Expensify for making this a conversation Corporate American SORELY needs to have.
