@WordspaceAce was born and raised on the southside of Chicago. He crashed his parents first desktop downloading malware disguised as 50 Cent mixtapes from Limewire which introduced him to antivirus software and an interest in computers #sharethemicincyber
Fast forward years later, and @WordspaceAce went to college for business and end up getting a masters in cyber security. He's worked in various areas of cyber security from help desk to Incident Response to Threat Intel to now Threat Hunt.

Through his entire journey thus far, @WordspaceAce always try to fill spaces with faces that look like him and that’s one of the biggest rewards for being in the field.

"What drew you into security?"

@WordspaceAce has always been into tech, but security stood out to him while he was in college. He had a few mentors and noticed the technology & information boom.

#ShareTheMicInCyber
Twitter & Instagram were becoming popular & the amount of private info posted online was (and still is) concerning.After seeing a few close friends fall for account takeover phishing links and before 2FA was really a thing, @WordspaceAce saw a field that really interested him.
"What do you wish other students knew before entering the field of security?"

@WordspaceAce - every student should know how to self learn. This field is ever changing and staying on top of the most current skills is pertinent...

#ShareTheMicInCyber
..Also, read the news/twitter on latest vulnerabilities, hacks, proof of concepts, and threat actor activity. And one more thing students should know, build a home lab if you can. @WordspaceAce

"What does inclusion & allyship look like to you?"

@WordspaceAce
Inclusion to me is providing the same opportunities and spaces for black and other marginalized groups we normally would not be privy to. I believe allyship starts with empathy.

#ShareTheMicInCyber
@WordspaceAce
The group with the opportunities should learn about why things are unequal. That’s step one. The next step in allyship is bringing someone who is marginalized into spaces where they may not have ...

"Where do you hope to grow your career?"
@WordspaceAce Long term, I see myself as a prominent figure in the cloud security and automation space. I want to help small black businesses with their security posture as well.

"What 3 people can we help connect you to via the security community?"

@WordspaceAce I don’t have anyone in particular. But I do hope that #ShareTheMicInCyber invites conversations with several people in the security community

#ShareTheMicInCyber
"What parting thoughts do you have you want to share to others in the community?"

@WordspaceAce
Never stop learning.
Technical skills are important but that coupled with a high emotional intelligence will make you a true asset in the security community

And call your friends, family, and colleagues out if they’re blatantly or passively racist.
