As an incident response guy, Trump’s comment last night about how the military will easily handle vaccine logistics made me want to punch the wall. It won’t be easy. It will be one of the great logistical challenges ever. 1/
Flippantly saying the military will do it all is massive evidence of no plan, no foresight, no thinking through possibilities, and no understanding at all of what it would take to manufacture, distribute, and deliver a vaccine in this country. 2/
There are still PPE shortages. There are shortages of basic drugs used for COVID patients. The military still has numerous obligations around the globe. Hurricanes, floods, and fires will keep happening. 3/
Puerto Rico, the Gulf Coast, and communities hit by wildfires, floods, and derechos are still in disarray, some by this administration’s choice. The initial COVID “response” was colored by politics with blue states having greater difficulties. 4/
Their comms have been intentionally misleading. If anyone thinks this administration can handle vaccines easily, you are not living in the same world I am. Logistics is tough, complex work, especially on this scale—and there is now a robust record of logistical failures. 5/
It will take a huge and sustained national effort. Huge. Sustained. Initial priorities will need to be set. Exceptional, accurate, and consistent communication will be needed. Planning is key, follow-through is critical.

These guys are not up to the task and never will be. 6/6
