I'm gonna try and be short with this, but it's quite impractical as each of these infections probably need a thread of their own.

[Thread on STI/STD's] https://twitter.com/tshi_nakanyane/status/1319612549470576641
Firstly, these are infections that are spread through sexual contact. Some however may be spread on other ways like through blood. I'll concentrate mostly on how these affect women as women health is more of my area of interest.
Secondly, condoms do help against contracting all of these infections although some may argue that they're not completely safe, particularly where the viruses are concerned.
I'm not gonna get into the HIV as I think most people know enough about this.
Gonorrhea and Chlamydia cause infections along the genital tract and may go go all the way up to the ovaries. These may cause severe infections with pus developing there and may even burst. If untreated, one could actually die from this infection.
Following treatment however there may be scarring of the tubes which leads to infertility. The other STI's do not affect fertility. Women with these infection will have a foul smelling discharge, pelvic pain and painful sexual intercouse.
HPV is a virus that affects skin and mucosa (skin lining mouth, internal organs, vaginal wall etc). This is spread by direct contact. It is not only an STI as it may be spread through any form of direct contact. There are more than 100 types of this virus and they case different
...lesions. Where genitals are concerned, they can cause warts and even cancers. These include cervical cancer, vaginal cancer, anal cancer and penile cancer(yes, men can get cancers of their penises)
This virus can actually be cleared by the immune system provided it is a healthy immune system. However the virus may persist and then eventually cause the cancer as stated. HPV testing with pap smears are a good way of screening then treating.
However treatment is usually that of the lesions that have developed and not necessarily removing the virus. Vaccines exist to keep from contracting infections but these need to be taken before the first infection.
Point of note, you may have this virus for years before developing lesions and it also does not necessarily mean that one gets it from their most recent partner.
It is completely asymptotic and only picked up when warts or a cancer has developed
HSV- Herpes virus is also spread by direct contact. There are two types of these viruses and one usually causes genital ulcers while the other gives oral ulcers (so called cold sores. After infection there is usually a painful lesion that looks like it has water in it
The virus then moves to specific nerve cells and becomes dormant there. It may be reactivated when there is poor immunity, like in the case of a different infection, stress, diabetes etc. new lesions (small with water inside) are then seen on the skin
I need to mention that this again is spread by direct contact. Infact a person may even spread it on themselves from one area to another.
I'm getting tired now, and I know most people have stopped reading by this point
Syphilis- usually develops as a hard painful lesion on the genitals. This infection may stay in your body for a long time and becomes reactivated to give secondary and tertiary syphilis.
One of the most important problems eith syphilis is that it can be transmitted to an unborn baby and may have terrible effects.
I obviously don't need to say this, bit I will none the less. Safe sexual practices are important. Condoms go a long long way in preventing spread of these infections. If you don't know your sexual partner's sexual history, then make sure you condomise
PS: I'm not gonna share any pictures of these infections. I wouldn't advise anyone to google them either but if you're curious the by all means
