New: The @nytimes has identified more than 214,000 coronavirus cases at more than 1,600 colleges across the US. Most of these covid cases are from this recent fall semester. The 214,000 covid cases at colleges account for 2.5% of all known cases in the US. And that figure is an undercount because some colleges have refused to provide case data or have stopped giving updates. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/covid-college-cases-tracker.html">https://www.nytimes.com/interacti...
Coronavirus cases at colleges are still rising fast. Our college data shows where covid has been identified over the course of the pandemic, but most of the cases are new. We& #39;ve counted more than 207,000 additional cases since late July, and more than 35,000 in the past 2 weeks.
Our college data has been requested by researchers. We have made it available to the public. You can download it, here: https://github.com/nytimes/covid-19-data/tree/master/colleges">https://github.com/nytimes/c...
More than 50 colleges have reported at least 1,000 coronavirus cases over the course of the pandemic, and more than 375 colleges have reported at least 100 cases.
Coronavirus infections on campuses might go unnoticed if not for reporting by academic institutions themselves because they do not always show up in official state or countywide tallies, which generally exclude people who have permanent addresses elsewhere, as students often do.
There is no national tracking system for covid on college campuses. Colleges are making their own rules for how to tally infections. Our survey is believed to be the most comprehensive account available.
Curating this infection data is time-consuming and complicated. Luckily, we have a superstar team of journalists, some of whom are college students or recent grads. This data is all gathered manually, one college at a time, often over the phone.

This tracking effort would not be possible without the brains and support of our incredible editors, @monicadavey1 @archietse @simonelandon @marclacey. Thank you.
In case you didn& #39;t see it, yesterday the US reported its second-highest daily case total since the beginning of the pandemic. Thirteen states have added more cases in the past week than in any other seven-day stretch.
