The 80/20 Principle, also called the Pareto Principle
was discovered by Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto
when he noticed 80% of healthy pea pods were being yielded by
20% of the pea plants.
He went on to notice the pattern that
80% OF RESULTS COME FROM 20% OF ACTION

If you own a business, 80% of your sales may come from 20% of your customers
You probably wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time
You probably spend 80% of your money on 20% of expenses

Well first off, let's not get lost in the exactness of the ratio.
Some of these things may be more like 85/15 or 75/25
But the point is,
Most of the results come from a much lesser amount of input.

In relationships, you can identify what few friends bring out the most happiness and try to spend the more time with them.
Or with your partner, what few problems cause the most amount of disagreement.

In your career, what few customers do you need to focus on since most of your sales come mostly from them?
OR
How much less stress could you have by focusing LESS on the 80% of customers that are only generating 20% of sales but cause you the MOST headache?

What if you adopted a diet of eating what you should 80% of the time and got to enjoy yourself 20% of the time? (Gonna have fitness twitter all over me for this one)
The possibilities in applying the principle is everywhere.
Start considering it when trying to figure how to allot your effort.
It may just save you a ton of time and stress.
At the least, you'll be more decisive because you know you
are putting your focus in the best places.
