It feels like the beginning of a process of self restoration,healing and rejuvenation.The vibrations and soft musical notes of wind chimes helps to relax +

The chime is symbolic of peace amidst the cacophony of the city buzz.

"tokyo" is a song alluding to one& #39;s loneliness and isolation from oneself. It is an ironical monologue of losing access to oneself while simultaneously exhausting yourself to the world.

Namjoon, I believe, draws direct connection to the feeling of desolation+
attaching the metaphorical reference of the city Tokyo in Japan to his own soul . The comparison appears vivid when the context of the old phenomenon , "Tokyo Desert" is considered.

Tokyo is an upbeat city with the inherent drama in it& #39;s lights glamour and colour. The visitors experience an aesthetic and sensory overload. According to "Tokyo Desert ",an influx of people looking for convenient lives have overcrowded the city, diminishing the quality of life.
Contrary to popular belief ,the people giving the streets life are lonely •It& #39;s a crowd without company• No matter its outward appeal ,the insides are often barren. It reminds me of Charles Bukowski& #39;s line:
"Beware those who seek constant crowds because they& #39;re nothing alone."
Namjoon starts with straight and very unswerving honesty as he sings, " Wake up in Tokyo Feel like a torso.."

Although "torso" would do justice to the rhyme there are layers to it . The others being "torn soul" and "tourist so" is a play with our auditory perception.

Namjoon has very cleverly left us to decipher for ourselves. Perhaps he refers to the incomplete feeling both physically and emotionally (& #39; torn soul & #39;; a gathering but yet scattered ). Namjoon draws a parallel to himself since he& #39;s a "tourist" resulting in him feeling alienated+
from the city and himself, his soul.

Namjoon is a paragon when it comes to his lyrical excellence. Waking up to a new dawn is typically suggestive of rejuvenation promising renewed life and hope. But what is a morning that you cannot see ?!+
When one& #39;s eyes can& #39;t get past the gloom of an early fog , the sunlight doesn& #39;t break through it to light up the hollow and emptiness in you. However, subtly wishes to turn his foggy mornings into the shine of a liberating dawn. He longs to wake up to aspiration,+
brightness and with promises of reward and reattachment to his soul.

Joon refers to the story of Pinocchio, a wooden marionette who was created by Gepetto. He wished Pinocchio could get a "conscience of his own" instead of being a puppet to someone& #39;s strings; (someone with real body and mind.) Comparison to the "marionette" was made to signify+
his discomfort in his own skin, being alienated from ones own body and mind, exhausting oneself to the world and being decided by it. Pinocchio wasn& #39;t completely inanimate and had human qualities in him partially. Seemingly, Joon is pulling at the feeling of emptiness, void+
and ironically suffocation and unfamiliarity in his own space at the same time. In its possible explanation, he talks about being succumbed and engulfed by the monotony of routine. The limitation has as restrained him from freedom in soul, body and movement.
The line "This was me sometime ago" follows. This could be suggestive of a youthful and childlike innocence that Pinocchio had initially.
Joon says "your" as if referring to a stranger he knew a lot about. The connotation of disattachment and separation from his own past self is evident. He wishes to recognize himself, his lost identity. An individual without any facade and lie. Perhaps, like Pinocchio+
he has been rearranged according to everyone& #39;s convenience but his own, dragging him farther from his own conscience. And he has no choice than submitting to it.

"Life is a way that sometimes you cannot see."

The first word in itself is as heavier as it looks easier.+
The path of life is compared to something unprecedented, unwarranted and catches you unprepared. Yet it holds numerous possibilities in its way which you sometimes cannot see amidst the layering fog obstructing your vision.

The motion of life can be sometimes too fast+
to allow you a moment to breathe for yourself. When life becomes a duty, a routine we don& #39;t live, we survive.

"And ash is a thing that sometimes we all should be."
We all have resulted from ash and dust and we will be reduced to it eventually. Each spec would chronicle+
the numerous times we have survived , and learnt to return to the ashes. We want life to progress but we& #39;re stuck in a loop.

In the grand scheme of the universe we& #39;re as tiny as dusts by we hold an universe of stories in them.

Tho particular line reminds me of Song Kang-ho& #39;s line from Parasite:

"You know what kind of plan never fails ?No plan at all...if you make a plan life never works out that way."

The uncertainty,lack of predictability and ambiguity of the present of tomorrow, and the unknown+
is being put to question. It is the possibility of the unwanted that leaves you in bewilderment.

Do note that "different" is the keyword here. Amidst the confusion the word embodies hope for the better, an alternative. He looks forward to finding assurance in himself,+
his tone speaking of denial from getting "comfortable" in this restriction with mind longing to a clearer vision of himself and the path of his life.

"Why do love and hate just sound the same to me ?"

Contrary to popular belief, "love" and "hate" are not after all opposite in nature. They& #39;re contrasting in action , that& #39;s try ,but fundamentally pillar from the same foundation ; concern. What revokes the feeling of love+
can do just the opposite.The word that opposes love and hate in reality is INDIFFERENCE;lack of concern and heed.

What seems to be your greatest asset might be eyed wrongly by others. When what is intened to make you love is channeled into hatred, one feels betrayed , insecure+
and in doubt of oneself. You distance yourself from oneself.

"I can& #39;t sleep , homesick."
This particular line is very thought provoking indeed. He admits being consumed in his flood of thoughts. The same scribble of thoughts keeps him from rest(immitigable and uncontrolled.)
Since these are Namjoon& #39;s lyrics in question, I believe there& #39;s much weight to the latter half.

As I mentioned earlier, Tokyo is a metaphor to a part of his soul he& #39;s unfamiliar with, uncertain about and eager to understand. On the surface , "homesick" corresponds to his+
longing for return to Seoul , the place where he recognizes likeness and comfort. To him Seoul is known and understood and spent time in. Metaphorically as well, he finds himself in Tokyo , an unknown city giving him trouble which makes him long and yearn for a return to Seoul,+
in whose warm embrace he finds his true self comfort, solace and protection. He longs to feel accepted in his own skin instead of a stranger to it.( To return back to the home he lingered far from. )
"tokyo" , in fact the whole playlist of deep personal regard to Namjoon. His intense lyricism , and attachment of poetic layering in the simplest of words is nothing less than genius. Namjoon transcends words into emotions and rightly pulls at them. It leaves me in amazement;+
the way in which his words extend language and transforms into emotions beyond it for all to resonate with.

I read somewhere that Namjoon crossed out mixtape replacing it as a playlist because its more personal. Something you& #39;d confide in a close friend apart from yourself.

You just need to trust and start with Tokyo and end up traveling the journey to self healing along with Namjoon and his muscial embrace.
His words seem to embody your emotions and his music teems up to give you the sense of familiarity.
