Deputy WH natsec adviser Matt Pottinger is giving a keynote for a London think tank in fluent Mandarin and quoting the Simpsons .
Pottinger wastes no time on notion that the US-China could collaborate on anything -- launches immediately into discussion of its vast cyber surveillance operation, says China& #39;s goal is to "coopt, bully, seduce" people "into submission like taking the blue pill in The Matrix."
Pottinger describes Trump& #39;s China policy as one of "reciprocity and candor" and defines the first principle as "when a country injures your interests, you return the favor."
Pottinger says the "high-water mark" of China& #39;s openness came on Dec. 11, 2001, when it was admitted to the WTO. Says Beijing has failed to implement reforms, and gone into reverse over past decade.
Pottinger, a former Wall St. Journal reporter, defends Trump& #39;s stance on human rights: "If you look at what President Trump does, and not what the media says, the moral component cannot be denied."
