I worked at Scholastic when Graphix launched, they had a party for Jeff Smith, which I went to as an employee, I managed to butt my way into a group of cartoonists, I think it was maybe Paul Pope who said to me as I said hello to Frank Miller, something like, this is your shot

and he was right, I said the exact right clever interesting things, and became best friends with all of them that night
