Today millions of children across our nation are breaking up for half term. Around 34,000 of these children live in @RBWM, the area I was born, raised and still live in.
Windsor and Maidenhead are affluent areas of the country. Yet 23% of children live in poverty. The national average.

1 in 5 children. To be exact, 7,987 children living below the bread line across @RBWM
I'm deeply saddened, but not particularly surprised, that Maidenhead's MP and former Prime Minister @theresa_may voted against the extension of #FreeSchoolMeals to support children in our local area in the most extreme situations have access to a hot meal during half term.
At a time where many families are struggling with the impact of #Covid on their finances; our MP has voted against feeding starving children. It's really no surprise that our local foodbank and moved to larger premises TWICE in the last 6 months.
So, lets take a moment to think about the children we see playing in one of our parks, or walking through Nicholson's who think people don't care that they are hungry and starving - there's around 1500 children in the borough eligible for #FreeSchoolMeals.
I can't imagine how it feels not to know where your next meal is coming from, potentially freezing cold, going to bed at night with your tummy rumbling. Completely powerless and rapidly losing childhood innocence and hope.
So I ask our local councillors @MrStuartCarroll @GurpreetBhangra @andyj1979 to share with us what our local response to this travesty is; above and beyond individuals donating much-needed food to @FoodbankBerks
