Can we please fill parliament with people with hearts? This shouldn’t be a tweet that we have to share or even write - yet it is.

For peeps in the Uk, who are wondering how to help - I’ve been thinking the same thing.

This is gonna be a thread of things that I’ve worked out. Sharing in case it inspires you.
1. Use @OLIO_ex to give away food that’s sitting in the cupboard or was in the BOGOF mode at the supermarket and you forgot to put it into the food bank basket on your way out. ( ok maybe that’s just me. )

2. Buy independent, local & diverse - I like variety in where I shop.
I also realised there’s shit I hate doing and I am lucky enough to be able to afford to pay people to do stuff.

My favourite person is Keith- he comes and cleans my oven every 6 months and makes it look new. It’s not expensive and it saves smoke in my eyes.
It’s wild to me to think of using a service for things that you can do yourself like tailoring/ mending clothes, cooking your own food or cleaning my oven. But I’ve learnt the stress of putting it off vs the cost of asking for help and paying for it is well worth it for me.
It’s super cool that restaurants are going to give away meals for kids in Manchester, but they also need to stay afloat.

And with that

3. Be more conscious of where I buy things and why.

Amazon doesn’t need my money.
Books are now coming from @hivestores

I find gifts from @UKJamii and @Etsy and @folksy.

I buy household stuff from the packaging free shop in town ( finally it opened! )

and a fair amount of electronics I buy from retailers I like - eg John Lewis

@eBay_UK for second hand.
Computer parts are generally from places like @OverclockersUK and Scan or direct from the manufacturer.
It’s not perfect but it’s a habit I’m working on.

It helps that I took off the saved credit card details off a lot of websites so everything is as much effort as each other. 😁
