My friend @chappie_cat inspired me to write this thread.

We can have two outlooks.
1. The world is crappy and full of crappy people.
2. The world isn’t crappy and isn’t full of crappy people.

Actually. The world is FULL of wonderful people. Empathetic people. Kind people.
But we don’t see this because good news does not sell. Sensationalism sells. Bad news sells. Lies sell. You have to take a step back and look at the big picture. Some don’t, they step forward into the madness, absorb it, believe it and react upon it.
During disasters, people help, they stand patiently in line for food and water. The university of Delaware tracks disasters and how people react, and the vast majority behave humane. But what does the news report? It reports outliers of bad behavior. A great example of this was
the mass of lies during Hurricane Katrina. They reported looting. Did you know that most looters were actually getting food and supplies for those in disaster shelters? It doesn’t matter where the news comes from, CNN, NBC, FOX. These all belong to the super wealthy. They want
you to think the world is a horrible place. People are prepared to give up their freedoms to an authoritarian if they think it will protect us all from the big bad world. The news is why we have people like a Putin and Trump. There are those that really believe they will save
them from this terrible world. The media for a long time have been creating a world that isn’t real. It’s a fallacy. What they have managed to do is create splinter groups of hate in the process. But it’s all funded by the wealthy. The people are growing and they want to assure
that they hold on to power. They can only do that by creating a world welcoming to tyranny and authoritarians. This is why we have war after war. It plays inti this terrible world. It creates fear. It makes them money in the process. We have terrorised civilians around the world
in our pursuit of making fear the predominant emotion. They keep us in a constant state of trauma. Every day new trauma. Corruption and greed have been allowed to thrive because of this. Democracy is an experiment, an experiment designed by the wealthy for the wealthy. Democracy
is meant to be the power of the majority. It is not what we have.

But it something we must fight for. First we must reject that the world is a nasty horrible place. This is just the philosophy of Thomas Hobbes who believed that the state of human nature was fear. But he too
had an agenda. He was a monarchist. He believed humans would feel less fear if we gave up our freedoms to the Leviathan that would keep us all safe. Well the Leviathan didn’t keeps us safe. The Leviathan actually consumed us and spat us out. The Leviathan is government.
It’s time to reject it all. It’s time to look to Kant and perpetual peace. Because peace is what we want. But peace does not make money.
The world isn’t working because we are told of a world that doesn’t exist. It starts with each and every one of us. To stop being reflexive,
to stop reacting so quickly to bad news and reporting.
Look behind the headlines. Do what Mr. Rogers did, “look for the helpers.” The helpers are always there. Doing good. That is our human nature. Lending a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on.
