Football (⚽️) has hundreds of terrible misses and own goals. But you don’t tend to see as many bloopers from other sports.

Here’s an exception: Daniel Jones for the Giants in last night’s football (🏈).

What are your favourite non-⚽️ sports bloopers?
Here’s one from rugby. The 🏉 equivalent of an open goal miss.

Will Carling is probably thankful he had an otherwise successful career, otherwise he’d be rugby’s Rosenthal.
🏒🤦‍♂️

Never seen this before, here’s Patrik Štefan of the Dallas Stars missing the empty net against the Edmonton Oilers in 2007, only to see them to go up the other end and equalise.

Luckily for him, the Stars won the shootout.

Thanks @joflag 👍
🏈🤦‍♂️

Please keep these coming, this is great.

Here’s DeSean Jackson suffering from premature celebration in 2008.
🏉🤦‍♂️

Ok, this one’s as much about the brilliant defending as it is the attacker messing up, but he’s got to be disappointed with himself there.

Cheers to @owainwg for this one. And possibly a couple more I can’t now find - you know who you are.
🥍🤦‍♂️

Hands up if this is the first Lacrosse clip you’ve seen since American Pie.

Jack Kelly takes advantage of his opposite number Adam Ghitelman going for his water bottle at precisely the wrong moment.

Cheers @JamesClayts64
🏈🤦‍♂️

OK, one more American Football clip as this one tops the lot.

Utah Utes’ Kaelin Clay drops the ball a yard from the end zone, allowing Oregon a 99-yard fumble return touchdown.

Thanks @Ceri_D94
🏃🏽‍♂️🤦‍♂️

This must be the Athletics equivalent of an own-goal.

Former world champion Hagos Gebrhiwet miscounts the laps in a 5000m race last year. Imagine that feeling when he realises he’s just heard the bell.

He finished 10th. Oh mate.
🏉🤦‍♂️

Another rugby one because this is too good. Look at the time, look at the score.

Rory Burns must have felt like such a tit after this. His face on the replay made me laugh out loud, poor guy.

Thanks @ducnans
🏂🤦‍♂️

Oh, this is a bad one.

It’s the 2006 Olympic gold medal final of the Snowboard Cross. Right at the end, Lindsey Jacobellis has won, she knows she’s won. Then... oh no.

Thanks @jambonyeah
🏉🤦‍♂️

And another rugby one, turns out there are loads of them.

As @_pjt points out, it’s made much better by the fact that Christophe Domenici was a world-class player at the time and under no pressure whatsoever. Except from his own knee, I guess.
🚲🤦‍♂️

Showboats that go wrong will never not be funny. Doesn’t matter what sport.

Thanks @AlexSmith2507
⚾️🤦‍♂️

It’s the World Series. The Dodgers are 2-1 up (best of 7) and opponents are down to their last out in the 9th innings.

Then they do this. Two separate fumbles (from Chris Taylor and Will Smith) on one play to hand the victory to the Rays.
🏒🤦‍♂️

Brad Marchand at the beginning of the year, messing up the shootout spectacularly.

If he’d missed the puck entirely it would have been fine, he’d get another go. Haha, gutted.

Thanks @PisstakeRhaiadr
🏈🤦‍♂️

Here it is, The Butt Fumble.

Jets’ QB Mark Sánchez turned the wrong way at the snap, had to scramble and panicked, running headlong into a teammate’s buttocks.

It’s even got its own Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butt_fumble

Thanks to... everyone. Everyone nominated this.
🏒🤦‍♂️

Here’s another one from the NHL, where the nature of the sport makes total chaos possible.

Here, a delayed penalty means an extra man for Vancouver and they use the opportunity to pull the goalie - as soon as Calgary touch the puck it’s dead. Not everyone got the memo.
🏒🤦‍♂️

And another! Thanks @JackGulston for both of these.

Dan Boyle of San Jose Sharks. In overtime. In the playoffs. No idea what he was even trying to do.
🏈🤦‍♂️

This is absolutely sensational.

Jim Marshall still holds the NFL record for most fumbles recovered (30) in a career. Here’s one, followed by a 66-yard run... in the wrong direction.

Throwing it out of bounds at the end means a safety for the 49ers.

Thanks @Woop_x3
🏈🤦‍♂️

There are so many American Football bloopers, thanks for the education everyone (and @fn67195 for this one).

This is Michigan State vs. Michigan, going to assume that’s a pretty big rivalry.

10 seconds to go, all Michigan need to go is punt it away. Then...
🏀🤦‍♂️

Ok, this doesn’t quite fit the theme of the thread. Basketball doesn’t have the huge fails quite so much as every point is so much less impactful.

Still, plenty of opportunities for schadenfreude. Here’s Kemba Walker celebrating early.
⚾️🤦‍♂️

Didn’t expect there to be own-goal equivalents in baseball. Carlos Martinez scores a home run via Jose Canseco’s head.

Maybe by then Canseco didn’t need the fame & money; just a year earlier he was offered $50,000 to play one game for a nuclear power plant’s workers’ team.
🏏🤦‍♂️

Hard to think of too many big cricket bloopers, as dropped catches are so commonplace.

But given the moment, this was an absolute belter. Nathan Lyon fails to run out Jack Leach and England win the test.
🏌️‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Another sport which I didn’t expect to feature - taking loads of putts isn’t quite as intrinsically funny as some of the rest of the clips in the thread.

But this from Mike Clayton has to be seen.
🏏🤦‍♂️

Absolutely love this. It’s not so much the slip by Samit Patel that makes it funny, more the resigned sit he has afterwards.

Thanks @BroughCooper
🏌️‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Ernie, the ball itself has its own energy; life force, if you will. Its natural environment is the hole. So why don't you send him home? His bags are packed. He's got his airplane tickets. Bring him to the airport. Send him home.
