Twitter feels limited without some way to split the tweets you produce up into different breadths and intensities of broadcasting for different kinds of conversations. You should have an official way to whisper tweets in addition to speaking or yelling (pinning/self-RTing) them.
There’s some unofficial ways to make certain tweets less prominent, like ex. tweeting something at a less popular time of day or doing it under a different account, but those have notable disadvantages.
I wish there was a way to direct conversations on relatively small-scale or trivial topics to people interested in engaging with them, and only those people. (ie. the timelines of others wouldn’t be interrupted.) That would make those conversations possible in the first place ...
... and it would allow for tiered levels of deeper engagement with people. That kind of interaction used to be more realistic for me in the past, back when I had a smaller following and when it was more realistic for Twitter conversations to lead to IRL interaction.
I guess this thread isn’t entirely about Twitter, but also about missing the kinds of more random & nuanced discussions which used to happen offline (that might be considered their natural habitat) and which I guess in theory still happen on less public platforms.
