Half my ancestors were native Mexican folks. Other half were European colonizers. I was born here on this stolen continent in an empire who built its wealth on the backs of enslaved people. And I benefit from so much passing privilege.

And I’m not an immigrant.
While true we all have our roots somewhere else, we are not “all immigrants.” Not only does this gloss over Black folk’s ancestors who were forcibly taken from their homes, but it erases the immigrant experience of so many POC who have faced racism at the hands of the US empire.
I feel like saying “we’re all immigrants” while literally never immigrating... I mean you do the math. It’s not true, and that’s not even the function of the statement. It’s a statement meant to elicit empathy from those who oppose immigration policies that would help folks.
But those conservatives aren’t thinking that. They are thinking “fuck you im an American. This is my country.” So. It doesn’t play well. At least in my neck of the woods.
Okay back to my night of my bladder telling me I have to pee when I don’t! Cool body! I love how ur expressing ur stress rn
