I’ve never been to a kpop fan sign but I have met a few celebrities. When I met David Tennant in 2014, I was in such a state of shock that I made a dumb comment about his subpar American accent that I will NEVER live down. I still hear his sarcastic “very nice Bree” in my dreams
There’s a weird mix of excitement and terror involved in meeting ur idols. You feel like you have 1 shot to say the right thing, and you want it to be something you’ll walk away feeling good about. I can only imagine if someone asked me to bring up Scottish independence with him.
If I had attempted to get political with him, even with regards to a minimally inflammatory topic, I probably would have made him even more uncomfortable: he wasn’t at this con to address people on Scottish independence, he was promoting a TV show he was starring in
Putting him in that position wouldn’t be fun for me either. I rehearsed exactly what I was going to say WEEKS in advance and I still only said half the things I wanted to (+ some I didn’t want to). I only had 2 minutes with him, and I wanted to make every second count for us both
What was the purpose of this anecdote?

To illustrate why it’s not fair to fan sign winners to pressure them to bring up recent events with NCT. Many will never have this chance again, let them do what they want with it, something both fans and idols will look back on fondly.
That’s not to say they shouldn’t be held accountable, but fan signs are not the time or the place. Especially wardrobe CA concerns , they have no control over that, take it up with the company, and don’t drag the members who haven’t done anything into beef with the ones who have
ps that means not boycotting them bc you hurt the members who have done nothing wrong as well. Also not so sure boycotting will produce a sincere apology
