PSA: routine pap smears test for HPV, which is the virus that can cause cervical cancer. There are over 100 types of HPV, of which at least 14 are high risk, however 2 types cause the majority of cervical cancers. Men cannot contract HPV, they can only carry it and pass it on.
Please remember to get checked at least once a year. Your GP, local clinic, Marie Stopes and some Dischems can perform a pap smear test if you do not have a regular gynaecologist or cannot afford specialist care.
Men also cannot be tested for HPV. Please have honest conversations with your partner(s) about their previous/other partners. If he's never discussed STI status with prior partners

Always use condoms with new partners until you have test results in front of you. Test for a full-spectrum of STI's, not just HIV. These tests can be expensive, but they are worth it. Some STI's can be treated and cured, some cannot.
It's important to remove stigma around STI's so that we can have honest conversations about our sexual health and honour our bodies as well as those of our partners without compromising on pleasure.
Quick correction - I wrote that men cannot contract or be tested for HPV, when I really meant people with penises, who can be any gender.
Another correction because I'm always learning: people with penises CAN contract HPV and develop cancers from the virus.
Also there is a vaccine for HPV! Ask your doctor and get vaccinated
