PSG 1 - 2 Man Utd. Tactics. #MUFC #PSG #PSGMUN

#PSG build up in 21421 on ball with 1 pivot distribution. #MUFC kept a pentagon shape centrally with front 3 press. #MUFC midblock 343.

#PSG buildup from back in 3323 (GK+) shape. #MUFC near opposition box push 2 STs a bit wide and 2 FBs. #MUFC shape near opp. box 3412. V-shape press on 2CBs + CDM trigger ball oriented.

#PSG out-possession 431. #MUFC took advantage of Neymar, Di Maria, and Mbappe not tracking back or being active in defensive.

#mufc buildup in 3322 ball near side. Their 3412 -> 4231 with Shaw moving to LB & Telles pushes up to LW. This was done when #PSG's press was not aggressive. + maintain numerical advantage in buildup w/ #PSG front 3.

#PSG press not aggressive as Neymar is not active. Easier for #mufc to play through.

#mufc out possession: 523.

Tweak:

#PSG pushed Herrera up to press when they realized #mufc switch between 3412 & 4231 in possession. #mufc countered with DDG going long to Telles who was an outlet. DDG attempted 19 longballs 73% success rate.

Improvement.

This also left #PSG in a 2v3 in midfield.

Tweak:

#mufc went man2man in midfield. + 2FBs. This cut off #PSG front 3. Neymar &/or Di Maria would drop to receive ball from CBs and drive. #mufc countered by allowing 1 CB to move out to midfield to form a temporary 433 to mark them and Bruno went back to mark the CDM.

Note: Before #mufc countered the midfield had to work extra by Bruno dropping to cage Neymar if he dropped.
Neymar attempted this throughout the game and that can be seen in his 15 progressive runs and dribbles with 67% succ. rate. Highest (dribb.) in the game.

2nd Half:

#PSG change shape to 4231. Neymar free to roam between the lines. Di Maria & Mbappe tasked to move centrally. #mufc kept their shape 3412.

Tweak:

#PSG buildup in 244 to drag #mufc out of their 523 defensive shape.+ Cancel their V-shape press. + keep them in their offensive shape 4231 to overload the defense. Disadvantage: No midfield cover. Read the notes.

Advantage:

The central overload disorganized United's defense and left the flanks exposed for Kurzawa mainly who has 2nd most attempted crosses from open play for #PSG

Tweak:

#MUFC brought Pogba ON. Changed shape from 3412 to 433 false 9. Changed their pressing system from V-shape 12 to 23. More effective. + Another progressor in Pogba to maintain position and gain midfield advantage. #PSG overload canceled.

#MUFC buildup patterns changed with the change in formation to 2422 in their 1/2 and 2242 in #PSG's 1/2.

Tweak:

#MUFC brought VdB and DJ ON. Changed formation from 433 -> 4231. Changed their defensive shape from 433 to 442. Adds more solidity in defense as game was open and to keep ball better with VdB & Pogba. Seen as Pogba tried to keep the ball too much to waste extra time.
