The worst part about the meritless claim that New York City is dead, is that it pulls the conversation away from what we should really be talking about: How to make New York City better.
New York City is the greatest city in America, but our housing system is an unmitigated disaster and our mass transit system is in dire straits. This was the case before the pandemic, and it’s 20x the case now.
And the list goes on.

We should of course defend our city against these meritless attacks (New York City isn’t dead!), but we must not lose sight of the substantive changes that need to happen.
