I just checked my journal, and I have made a journal entry in @NotionHQ every single day for 603 days in a row. I have never been this consistent in my entire life about anything. I'm in too deep now... can't break the chain... so much creepy data to look through 👀
WHY do I do this? I used to chronically overcommit myself to projects and would frequently find myself in cycles of working all the time, and then burning out and getting resentful. Doing this daily journaling routine alongside weekly planning was a game-changer for *noticing*
It takes less than 5 mins to do every day, and it's something I do every night before I get ready for bed. It is so baked into my routine now I can't get to bed until I get that closer. Will all of the relations in Notion, I can track *a lot*. Here's some of what I track daily:
• Day of the week (for board view in my weekly agenda)
• Theme (part of the daily template)
• Date
• Win the Day (the most important task of the day)
• Sexy times 😎
• Flow (Did I reach a state of Flow, losing track of time, feeling so damn aligned with my work?)
• Did I do the WTD thing I said was important?
• 3 Words that describe how i felt (I've since moved this to a database of feelings, but haven't deleted the multi-select property yet)
• Effectiveness
• Energy level
• Happiness
• Physical Activity (database)
• Courses/Books/Resources consumed
• Topics I explored (my master tag DB)
• Meals I ate (i dont use this super often...)
• Notes + Ideas
• Content I created
• The current week (relation to my weekly planner for that week)
• Gratitude
• Wins/Celebrations
• Lows + Challenges
• Things I could improve on (i've also since added a database for this, but haven't deleted this yet)
• Entertainment (movies, shows, video games, etc)
• Link to the current month database
• Any additional random notes i want to add
And in the body of the entry: a photo of the day (i replace the template image with my day's image), my daily actions, a place to add notes and reflect on what happened, and a short end of day ritual:
WHY is tracking all this stuff useful? SO many ways I have used this data. One is noticing that thursdays are CONSISTENTLY the most productive/focused/effective day of the week. Now I've adjusted my schedule to make thursdays an unbookable day:
Hmm... Thursday is also one of the sexiest days of the week. Coincidence..?
