A lot of people are saying they don’t know what Fracking is so here’s a little thread (thanks AP Environmental Science ig) :
Fracking (which has a lot of names) was made in 1947 by two mfs in the oil and gas industry to try to *basically* dig up natural gases. These natural gases are produced from old dead things in the ground that over time decayed and their gases were trapped.
So, if you dig/drill really deep into the ground. You’ll find natural gas trapped in a layer past bedrock called shale. They go all the way down to a certain point vertically, then turn that hoe 90 degrees and continue drilling. To release the gas they gotta shake that mf so they
fill these holes up with a water mixture, (about 90% water and they add chemicals depending on purpose such as acid) and clay to loosen the rock and release the gas. They pump the water back up which is hazardous and sometimes even recycle the water,
however the more recycled the water is, the more hazardous. So, why the hell should you care?! One, this process isn’t just done in the middle of no where not bothering people, this is happening IN PPLS BACKYARDS! The dust, pollution, and METHANE?
that comes up causes things like cancer and many other health issues for the community it’s happening in. It takes away from the local water supply using 3-6million gallons of water. When creating the holes, there is a metal lining made to protect groundwater from contamination
but if you putting pressure on it that mf could (and has) busted and contaminated the whole community’s water supply. It can and has caused earthquakes ruining homes and infrastructure. Also, natural gas is not renewable.
We wasting so much time trying to protect a practice that will run tf out. How about we spend time finding better, renewable, and safe ways?
End of thread :)
