OK, Twitter followers, my responses today make me feel that I need to be very clear and open with you about what my stances are on everything. TBH, I thought I had been but you won't all have followed everything I've ever said because you have lives outside Twitter. Here we go.
I am above everything a liberal. This means I believe in the individual as an entity whose right to determine their own path is paramount. It means I believe in freedom of belief & speech and co-existence even if you disagree strongly.
I am a humanist. This means I care about humans and centre their wellbeing in everything. This means I don't have a lot of patience for identity politics. I don't care how much melanin people have or what genitals they have or which sex they are attracted to.
This doesn't mean that I don't care if individuals are discriminated against on those grounds. It means I care a lot and I will oppose racism, sexism & homophobia with great fervour. That bullshit is socially unacceptable & I will say so. Loudly.
It also means I support trans rights to acceptance and dignity. I think it's clear that some people are trans & don't deserve to be mistreated because of this. I also think biological realities exist & trans women can't be accepted straightforwardly as women in every situation.
I think we can and should find ways to treat trans people with dignity and respect and also protect women's spaces and sports.
I am an atheist and not only a disbeliever in God(s), but I actively think god-belief is detrimental to human thriving. Because of my liberalism, I will defend religious freedom as a human right & oppose anyone who attempts to bully people for having a religion.
I am a leftist. By this, I mean we need to redistribute wealth by taxing rich people a lot more to support the systems and institutions that provide for the essential human needs of housing, food and medical care that the poorest people cannot afford.
I am a remainer. I think the UK would be much better off inside the European Union. This doesn't mean I think leavers are evil, racist xenophobes. I think it means they are mistaken about what is best for the UK.
I am anti-racist. This doesn't mean I adhere to critical race theory concepts of anti-racism. I oppose them, in fact. I support a consensus that anyone who believes race carries moral or social significance is both factually wrong & stupid. This includes critical race theorists
I am a gender egalitarian. I believe anyone who tries to constrain men or women into gender roles needs to fuck right off. So do people who try to socially engineer men and women into having the same interests en masse. That won't happen. Biological differences exist.
I am very staunchly a supporter of lesbian, gay and bisexual rights. Full disclosure. I am attracted to both masculine men and butch lesbians and have had sexual relationships with both. So the fuck what? Consenting adults finding love, romance & sex are all good. Back off.
I don't believe laws should be respected because they are laws. Some laws are shit. Here in the UK, we need to get rid of hate speech laws, get religion out of schools and the House of Lords, legalise marijuana & more importantly, assisted euthanasia for the terminally ill.
I don't care if statues of slave traders are toppled into the sea. That's also history! I don't care if people cartoon images of the prophet Muhammad. Get over it.
I don't believe sexism against women is a mainstream thing. I'm a woman. I think I'd have noticed if my input had been devalued. It hasn't. More people want me to speak on social issues than I can deal with.
I do believe racism remains a thing. I've seen it. It's bullshit. We should all gather together and tell it to fuck right off.
