Several of you have asked me to weigh in on masking in schools. Although I am still primarily focused on getting all schools open, I can’t resist the opportunity to quote the @nytimes, who is beginning—after (ahem!) *6 months*—to acknowledge the science:
“But Britain and the Netherlands have kept schools open with few restrictions on class sizes or requirements for mask-wearing. Yet they, too, have shown limited transmission among younger children or from children to their parents, Dr. Nichols noted.”
To summarize: there is now a robust body of data to suggest that forcing young children to wear masks and stay 6 ft away from each other in school is unnecessary, unhelpful, and is harmful to them.
