Several of you have asked me to weigh in on masking in schools. Although I am still primarily focused on getting all schools open, I canât resist the opportunity to quote the @nytimes, who is beginningâafter (ahem!) *6 months*âto acknowledge the science:
âBut Britain and the Netherlands have kept schools open with few restrictions on class sizes or requirements for mask-wearing. Yet they, too, have shown limited transmission among younger children or from children to their parents, Dr. Nichols noted.â
ââWe see a similar pattern in places where theyâre doing nothing at schools, so I find that fascinating,â she said.ââ https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/22/health/coronavirus-schools-children.html
To summarize: there is now a robust body of data to suggest that forcing young children to wear masks and stay 6 ft away from each other in school is unnecessary, unhelpful, and is harmful to them.
