Celebrating the 2nd anniversary of <Mono>, I've done some (extensive) street view search of scenes featured in filmed in "Seoul" music video :D
모노 2주년 기념 'Seoul'스트리트 뷰 탐험을 해보았습니다
#MONOversary #mono #RM #cultural_context_with_Bom
1. Lotte Tower
The MV starts with a distant view of this building towering over landscape of Seoul. With its 556-memter height, the skyscraper is the tallest building in South Korea (located in Jamsil). I remember construction of this tower was quite controversial back then
Remember during the 5th Muster, major landmarks in Seoul turned purple lights to celebrate BTS, and Lotte Tower was one of them :D Jimin also tweeted about this
2. Gangnam-Daero
Arguably the most crowded, the busiest area in Seoul: You can see CGV on the righthand side of the big street. (It deosn't look that crowded from the street view sc) Home of all test-prep institutions, beauty clinics, bars, cafes, and others
and Yes, Gangnam is THE GANGNAM in Psy's "Gangnam Style."
3. This part is also in Gangnam district, called "Gangnam Sageori (4-way intersection). Under this is the Gangnam subway station (Line 2+Shinbundang Line), which also forms a vast underground shopping area.
I found this by looking at the Industrial Bank of Korea building (street view screencapture on the right)
3. at 00:25 mark, the MV takes us to "Gangbyeonbuk-ro", a large-lane expressway that crosses the middle of Seoul city east to west. 'Gangbyeon' means riverside, 'buk' means north, 'ro' means road. The route here shows the person is crossing Sungsu bridge, heading east.
Compare MV scene and screenshot 😉
the SC is taken from the X marked spot on the previous thread
4. N Seoul Tower
Of course, Namsan and N Tower, one of the most symboli Seoul landmark. We are all familiar with this because of recent tweet by Namjoon, right?
5. D Tower (Gwanghwamun area) [00:53]
D Tower is one of commercial buildings near Gwanghwamun area. It stands out among other because of very distinctive windows on outside walls. Commercial area takes up first five floors, being filled with many famous restaurants.
(Personally recommend) Paulie's Brick Oven Pizza and Juyubyeoljan (they serve traditional Korean dish with Korean liquor)
6. Jongno Tower [01:31 mark]

This building is a landmark of Jongno area. Now it's a headquarter office of McDonald Korea, and the top floating part is occupied by WeWork.
7. "Jonggak Avenue of Youth"
Okay this took some time for me to spot the neonsign, but yes, this street is called "Avenue of Youth"- I still don't understand why but it is filled with hundreds of different bars and restaurant, very busy area in Jongno district.
8.Gwangjang Market [01:37 mark]

If you walk westward from Jonggak, you will encounter Gwangjang Market: one of the oldest and largest traditional marketplace in Koream, with more than 5,000 shops
The market is also famous for street food : Bindae-tteok (bean pancake), Mayak Gimbap ('mayak' means 'drug'-because it is so good and even addictive..?), and Yukhoe (raw beef steak tartare). Food street is usually very crowded but worth trying
9. Myeongdong [01:51 mark]
Maybe one of the most crowded commercial area in Seoul-a major tourist attraction. Lots and lots of cosmetic stores, private currency exchanges, clothing stores and street food vendor
10. Chenggyecheon [01:56 mark]
Cheonggyecheon is a narrow stream that flow through the downtown of Seoul. This river used to be covered with elebated highway, but it was removed when urban restoration project started. Now the 11km long river is a popular recreation spot
typo: its "Cheonggyecheon"
The area is beautifully decorated with lotus lanterns during Buddha's Birthday weeks. It's a big annual celebration. recommend you to come visit during that time :D
