I think it is time Mexico takes responsibility for helping separate Maya families & aiding the U.S. in placing kids in cages. The Mexican govt. has placed soldiers in various checkpoints to aggressively capture families at the border, & it is time we also hold Mexico accountable.
In my pueblito in Oaxaca, my elder aunt & a collective of elders continue to provide food & create outside shelters for these families. They have told me how Mexican soldiers have sometimes raided our pueblito seeking Central Americans refugees. So I know what I am talking about.
This is why I rarely mention my pueblito's name bc I have shared my father's story (a Maya Ch'orti' boy) & how he was given refugee during the Central American Civil War. However, I never forget how the Mexican govt. has always aided the U.S. in placing children in cages.
We need to stop turning a blind eye to what Mexico is doing & how it has aided the U.S. all this time in placing kids in cages & now, separating over 500+ from their parents (who can't be located). Set your feelings aside, & let's be honest.
Also this is why many Central American activists & community organizers call out Mexicans when they switch the narrative & say these children are from their communities. They are Central American & we can’t forget to mention Mexico’s role in all of this as well.
