Thread on racism in America as seen by a young, queer, black person:

1. Discrimination is interconnected. Racism, classism, homophobia, etc. you cannot have one...
...without the other. We see many times people of color that are forced into poverty. We’ve seen black women who make significantly less than men, white or black. We have seen black queer people have significantly less odds for success in this country. This fight is everyone’s.
2. The prison system heavily contributes to racism in this country. Prison systems are not for rehabilitation, it is a business. The NAACP states: “5% of illicit drug users are African American, yet African Americans represent 29% of those arrested and 33% of those incarcerated..
...for drug offenses.” Prison systems are violent, often creating violent prisoners who are in and out of the system for years, and many of these prisoners are black. This also ties into classism, as some black people who are forced into poverty must turn to crime to make money.
And the cycle continues and continues.

3. Dating back to slavery, the KKK, and police brutality we see today; this is genocide. This is the killing and targeting of people of color. And the fact that many people do not view it as such is disturbing. This is genocide.
I would also like to reiterate that this is not just a fight for black people. This is for indigenous people, Muslims, Asians, the LGBTQ+ community, etc. This fight is for all of us, and it must include all of us. Change cannot occur while we are split apart. We must unite.
