Traumatic Thursday is behind us on #Coronavirus watch.

Here's Friday's megathread.

Yesterday a record 25 European countries hit new #Covid19 records. Grant Shapps played Santa, but was embarrassed by Denmark and Germany.

All the drama here as it happens throughout the day...
#Germany totalled over 12,500 new #Covid19 cases by late last night, an all time record.

Contact tracing isn't as effective now the numbers are so large, and I cannot see Germany turning this around. I am predicting an infection rate of 250-300 AD/M within 2 weeks (by 5 Nov)
#Czechia just avoids breaking another record, with a total of 14,151 #Covid19 infections just declared.
That's 800 fewer than yesterday, but still almost 50% up on the same day last week.
I project tomorrow will see another record in Czech Republic, around 17,000 likely.
#Czechia's total today means the infection rate there is up to 988 AD/M
Positive test rates are running at about 33%
Number of #Covid19 patients currently in ICU rose 12% in a single day to 735, and more than 1000 extra hospital beds occupied in the past 3 days
The first time the #USA had back to back days of increased infection rate in the second wave of #Coronavirus was 6 October. 17 days ago. That's exactly why #Covid19 death rates are now starting to rise again in the States. It will get worse, especially as autumn turns to winter.
For only the second time since July, the #USA has hit 70,000 new #Covid19 cases in a day.

The total for Thursday stands at 71,000 - however 3 States: Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska did not declare results. These states could account for 3-5,000 extra cases
#Cyprus enforces use of masks indoors and outdoors in all areas of the country from this morning.

In addition night time curfews go into force in Limassol + Paphos (no one allowed out after 23:00)
The new rules will last until at least 9 November
#Covid19 #Coronavirus
#Belgium with another massive record this morning.
16,747 new cases of #Covid19 - that's more than 3,500 up on yesterday's record.
Also another 49 deaths in Belgium.

It's almost as if Belgium and Czechia are fighting to be most infected country. Belgium's infection rate 962 AD/M
Since #Czechia just failed to break its record at just after midnight. we've had 11 European countries reveal their dally tallies, and TEN of the 11 have broken their records.

It's Frightening Friday in the battle against #Coronavirus
Full country by country details to follow
So a whistle stop update now of the #Coronavirus data so far today.
#Russia with a significant increase announced by the Kremlin - up to 17,340 new #Covid19 cases

Avg daily deaths in The Russian Federation currently at 257
#Croatia continuing towards the 2,000 a day mark, registering 1,867 new infections today.
That's 65% up on last Friday.
#Ukraine's leaders seem to have given up trying to control #coronavirus
Determined not to order a new shutdown, the "traffic light" system basically allows #Covid19 to proliferate in new areas

Kharkiv, Odesa, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhia, Ternopil, Poltava now worst hit
#Ukraine has its highest ever #Covid19 new case tally: 7517

and second worst death toll with another 121 casualties in the last 24 hours
#Coronavirus in #Poland continues its relentless surge - 13,632 new infections today

153 more #Covid19 deaths - second worst day

testing up to 62,100 which gives a crude positive test rate of 22% https://twitter.com/TWMCLtd/status/1318477269174833154
#Hungary joins the club of record breakers too.
2,066 new #Covid19 infections, slightly up on yesterday, and 40% up over the week.

Deaths today: 47, just one under the record.
Total #coronavirus deaths in Hungary to 15 Sep = 646
Deaths 16 Sept to 23 Oct (5 wks, 2 days) = 706
Interestingly, in a bid to calm the public, #Poland has started publishing available hospital and ICU beds after making more capacity.
7000 "available" hospital beds looks good. But then you work out another 700 were filled in the last 24 hours alone.
#Covid19
After the "Thursday lull", #Slovakia sees #Covid19 cases back with a bang, and a new record.

2,581 new infections counted today; at least it's under 25% up on last Friday.

Deaths hit a new high, with 19 losing their fight against #Coronavirus in the last 24 hours
#Lithuania also creates an "anti record" with a small increase on yesterday. From 424 new #Covid19 cases to 442.

Lithuania's figures are now consistently 50% up on the previous week.
#Armenia and #Georgia once again go stride for stride with new record.

2,474 Armenians came down with #Covid19 in the last 24 hours, while Georgia registers a bigger % rise, up to 1,759

Armenia's #coronavirus infection rate now among the highest in the world at 571 AD/M
OMG - lunacy!
I guess two countries in central/eastern europe don't want to see their case numbers come down too quickly (see next retweet also)

no words...
#Bulgaria #Covid19 https://twitter.com/Pavel_Klymenko/status/1319591172332019712
#Latvia break its record too and by quite a long way too

250 new #Covid19 infections, 62 more than any other day (33% increase)
Here's the expected record in #Switzerland too

6,634 new cases of #Covid19 today. 20% up on the previous record. Swiss still seeing cases double every 6.5 days.

The only good news is no records for 2 days - they don't report again until Monday. https://twitter.com/TWMCLtd/status/1319234910306160640
#Romania breaks through 5000 cases a day for the first time

The new record is 5,028 new #covid19 infections, about 25% up on a week ago - at least the increases are slowing again now.

What's not slowing is the death rate. 82 more lost their lives in Romania today
Very big percentages coming out of #Liechtenstein now.
Removed from the #TravelCorridor now, and 42 new infections today, a 40% increase on the previous record.

Liechtenstein's infection rate now 494 AD/M (on Wed 292)

They can hide from taxes, but no escape from #Coronavirus!
Looking for some decent #Covid19 news?
Well #Iceland #Estonia #Finland are the only 3 European nations to avoid setting a record so far today - yet they also all recorded a week on week rise compared to last Friday.
Following the scenes in #Budapest a couple of tweets earlier in this thread, I have to agree wholeheartedly with @ProfKarolSikora here https://twitter.com/ProfKarolSikora/status/1319541627673784320
