Gender identity is an intimidating problem to tackle as it is
an extremely personal experience. And as such there are few working
models to use when trying to explain ones gender to another individual 1/n
So I introduce my genderspace model, I'm sure there are parts I have assimilated from other places but I will need to look more into that
To understand genderspace, it is important to first take a simple case.
Imagine a number line starting at zero that extends to 100 and label it
"Masculinity". At zero the person would be totally non-masculine
and at 100 they would be an arch-typical male.
This represents a single axis, or dimension that constitutes genderspace
If so desired similar axes can be made for Feminine, and also un-named
axes that there may or may not be language for.
How many of these lines exist? As many as are needed.
However a single axis, often times is not enough to describe someone fully.
After all many cis folk have traits that would not cleanly fit into
a single axis. The real power of the genderspace model comes into play
when you begin connecting the axis together.
For example, if you were to connect the masculine and feminine axes together
at the zero points, you now have a plane that can describe someone completely
agender on one corner, someone that is completely poly gender on the opposite corner,
and everything between on these
axes
This can further be expanded upon by adding more and more axes.
Add another to gain a 3d space, as new language is developed another axis
can be made. As more data is added the possible scope of descriptions only increases.
This does raise some complexity problems, and visualization becomes trickier
as you go higher but the space encompasses all.
Does an axis not apply to you? Your score on that particular axis is zero.
Do you find a 2d model describes you well enough? Simply only use the needed axes.
Earlier we discussed that a person would assign a value based on an axis which
could imply these values are fixed, but nothing could be further from the truth.
it would be better to thing of someone as a particle that can have motion
throughout the space. Some stand sturdy in one spot, while others flow and dance
through the space like a ballet dancer set a drift in the cosmos.
Time is yet another axis.
end of thread for now.
I'm working more on putting this into words. But eventually I want to make a pretty paper based on this with pretty pictures.
It has its flaws, but I hope its a useful tool for others.
