watching an unrelated video, and having to sit through hearing "luke skywalker was a great character who learned and grew, meanwhile rey was already good at everything" fuck OFF!@!!
women are devalued no matter how skilled or knowledgeable they are, and people think that men off the street know more than any woman at the top of their fields. women need to know that they ARE valuable. Stronger than we know! That's the cathartic story we need to see! Thanks!
so if you will only accept a story that says "if you just PROVED that you were capable, and that you did all that work to EARN your place, THEN we would believe you" it's not a story that makes sense! because no matter our accolades, no one will ever believe us and it's fucked up
me watching TLJ: "Oh, interesting story." men on youtube watching TLJ: "I'm frothing at the fucking mouth because it's not a story that makes sense to me, a man, who would only have to TRAIN to succeed and will never have to suffer society refusing to believe we can do anything"
that is LITERALLY what her story is about. She thinks she's nothing!!!! She comes from nowhere!!! Her journey is one of self-confidence!!! SOMETIMES WOMEN ARE TALENTED. And all these videos demanding her PROVE herself undermines it and misses the point so fucking much
if she proved herself to the men watching through narratively repeating a boring as shit training sequence we already watched in ESB, it would just tell the women watching that no one will EVER believe you unless you PROVE you beloing. No one will believe you're the one in charge
it just fucking kills me. Sometimes you DON'T Want to repeat the exact same fucking story when you have a different protagonist!!!! Sometimes, you're addressing new and different themes that will really resonate with half the audience, and that's good!
it killed me because they flinched back, saying "oh yeah all those men were right, she DID need to prove that she belonged. She DID need to be fucking related to to exist in the story. She DID need to earn that saber. Not "stronger than she knows" but "you have his power"!!!
ironically, the story about a woman building her own internal sense of worth because she'll always be in a world that will never stop demanding proof, that same story is the one where society is like "she needs to prove she belongs there" - it will always be SO egregious
