I feel like people are forgetting that John Piper was the guy who told an entire generation of evangelicals to pursue lives opposed to the American Dream.
Opposing the guy who's promising it to evangelicals is pretty on brand for him, tbh.
Like, we do remember that he's come out against spending one's life playing golf & picking up seashells on the beach, right?
Piper has always been outspoken about cultural issues, but the difference btwn him & othet conservative evangelical leaders is that his core message never rested on reclaiming America.
And this may be the real divide among conservative evangelicals: To what degree is your conservatism a means of securing the American Dream?
Piper has always said that pursuing the American Dream is a waste of a life. It's no surprise that he's not going to exchange his vote for it now.
Or even the promise of it.
