My favourite 40k army, the one I started with, and my main army has always been Ultramarines.

People have asked why (or just plain assumed that) I jumped on the Ultramarine bandwagon, because that's what's in the boxes.

However this is not the case at all.

I began... 1/
...collecting in 1994, when I got my first ever miniature for Christmas. A lead Space Marine Terminator with Lightning Claws. At the time, 40k was in the height of 2nd edition and Blood Angels were literally the poster boys.

A schoolfriend who already played offered to... 2/
...paint it for me.

He gave me the choice of bone, red, grey/blue or mid blue.

Now I'd always loved aircraft, growing up near a military airfield, so blue for the sky was my favourite colour. So I chose mid blue.

...
When he was finished, he returned my Terminator, painted up in the rich blue of what I would later find out was the Ultramarines. I thought it looked awesome. I got the Codex, some extra bits... 4/
...and before long, GW Salisbury opened, and the rest, as they say, is history!
