Walked through my local mall today. It’s a ghost town. Multiple businesses are shit down for good. Mom and Pop, franchise, and even big box.

People are calling for more sweeping lockdowns and restrictions as Covid cases rise. It’s understandable, people are scared and this
Virus is very real.

Beginning to understand and study the harm beyond just the medical part if it.

Businesses, especially small businesses are the very livelihood of the families that own them. Even more, they are “glue” for communities. Never struck me so hard as it
Did today at the mall, and across the street seeing the vacant (brand new) vendor condos.

Heartbreaking. So instead of restrictions, how about this: let’s be open, but diligent. Think about how your actions are affecting everything and everyone. Wear your mask, sanitize,
Social distance, be aware of your health, stay home if appropriate.

Do these things do we can safely go about our business in the community. We need to be around people (I actually thought I hated milling around Christmas shopping, but the notion of NOT doing it is
Much scarier.

And at the risk of saying an unpopular opinion, the greater risk of restrictions is the long term effects on people’s very livelihoods. We need to support our small businesses and the people who take on the debt, risk, and sacrifice to bring you the
Goods and services that we like. Just seeing the amount of vacancy in the mall today was genuinely rattling.

For those who have had to shut their doors, I empathize. Sending you positive vibes along with my sincere thanks for your courage to do what you did in an environment
That isn’t always supportive of you. Thank you. Hope you can get up and running again (best case) or if not that you can find something to keep you going.
