Folks are talking methods issues, but what I find even more fascinating is that there are two categories for BLS that are quite similar: "25-9044 Teaching Assistants, Postsecondary" and "25-1191 Graduate Teaching Assistants." The latter excludes the former.
and then we have table 8 of the NCES data (2015-16) and it includes assistantships in "institutional aid." These numbers do not match the article or the BJS data
