Based on my last couple threads, it would be a good time to go back into @sacnas sessions, and tap in for CREATING OUR OWN SPACES OF INCLUSION: BEST PRACTICES FROM GRADUATE STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCE IN PREDOMINANTLY WHITE FIELDS IN STEM.

Happy to see @jehknee_fur as one of the panelists in the session. Always appreciate Jenn's perspective!
A solid highlight on from this session: "building networks strengthens our commitments to fostering inclusion in learning environment."

An important question to consider presented in this session: How do we assess progress?
It's full of complexities.

Currently hearing panelists discuss the importance of faculty involvement in efforts for diversity and inclusion. The labor shouldn't constantly fall on marginalized students of color to do the work. It perpetuates major issue of power dynamics.

Hearing from @DrMelvaTrevino on the need to bring in experts for critical conversations in absolutely spot on! I think we've all experienced awkward moment when someone who's not an expert, nor lives in Black or Brown skin decides/determines they know the solutions. #SACNAS2020
To go along with website link I shared earlier in the thread, def consider following @UnpkngDIVERSITY to join in on the conversations.

How do we push beyond inclusion, and create sense of belonging?
@jehknee_fur : Finding a group, and finding your support system is a start.

Question for panel on how to pick discussion topics & faculty. Start w/ understanding needs of campus, then source out who on campus may be the experts on specific topics relevant to the campus community. Then strategize on how to have these convos on productive ways.

How do you call out ppl respectfully, while being mindful of career development?? Like this question!
"It's worth the risk" but it's still hard to navigate, when white allies are not moving to be accomplices. Ppl of Color have to always be safe & keep eyes open.
