We're pretty sure Bob and Bill took their pix at the same moment. While Bob's print survive, the plate neg is lost. The same applies to Bill's photo - his image is scanned from the censor print - basically a contact print used by the censor to note approval. 2/
Here are the reverse of the two prints. They offer a lot of information about how the images were used (or not). Bob's shot was published. The Times went for a wide print - We'll share more soon. The 'scanned' labels are from a project dating back to 2000.
Here is Bill Warhurst's wide shot which was published on The Times 'picture page' on 7th July 1941. Images usually appeared together in a gallery on a single page. This sort of wide 'record' shot was usually favoured over arty stuff.
