The ‘Greens are sealing records’ is spin. Spin by whom I’ll leave you to work out yourselves...

A thread....
The records are mostly witness statements from residents. They were obtained with the promise that their names would be redacted from the final report and would not be revealed for 30 years after the final report was published. On this basis...
...people agreed to relate their histories of abuse.
The legislation that creates commissions of investigation states that when a commission publishes its final report that the records obtained containing peoples’ names should be sealed in the national archives for 30 years....
...There have been many commissions of investigation since then. In each case, the records were sealed and archived after the redacted report was published.
The final report contains everyone’s story with their names removed or replaced with aliases....
...The commission indicated recently that they intended to publish their final report at the end of October. Knowing that this would trigger the legal sealing of all records, the minister wanted to save the database of who was in each baby home...
...A database had been assembled by the commission by tying together the names of mothers and babies from the witness statements. This database would be invaluable to people who had lost contact with their mothers or their children....
...So the Minister drafted legislation to save this database and hold it in trust with Tusla, who could release it to adopted children or parents through a legal process.
The anonymised statements will be published by the commission in their report....
...The names of the abused will be sealed in the national archives as they were promised.
The database of which mothers and babies were in which homes will be accessible through Tusla.

Slightly different than the narrative going around eh?

Cui Bono?
