How Chelsea can beat Manchester United (A Thread)

(Matches used: Chelsea vs Utd (3-1), Utd vs PSG (2-1)
On Saturday Chelsea face Manchester United who have just won against PSG in the UCL group stages. They are starting to find form again under Ole so in this thread I’ll talk about how Chelsea can beat Man Utd. This thread will include my preferred lineups (2) and a tactical ...
analysis on how I think man utd will line up and play.

I’m not very confident that we’ll beat them but I always have a little faith in the team and Frank. This game is massive for our campaign in the PL and Frank’s future at the club.
These are the two formations Manchester United used against us last time out and against PSG in their last game. As you can see they’re pretty similar which makes me optimistic in a way as I think I know a way we can win against them if they play the same formation (3-4-1-2).
I feel the primary reason we won was because of our HIGH-PRESS. As you can see the front 3 of Mount, Giroud and Willian constantly pressed Utd’s mistake-prone back 3 consisting of Bailly, Maguire and Lindelof.

This meant that when Chelsea didn’t have the ball and our front...
3 were pressing, their back line found it hard to play out from the back causing them to constantly play long balls to Bruno, Rashford and James.

Here is an Example...
Now about the double-pivot. Kovacic and Jorginho were excellent that game in keeping the pressure on Fred and Matic. As we see here, Lindelof plays the ball to Matic who gets INSTANTLY pressed by Jorginho. This causes the ball to be played back to Williams and then to Lindelof...
who is in a tight space, forcing him to play a long ball out to the front 3.

When United tried to play those long balls we obviously had a very physical and aerially dominant back 3 of Rudiger, Zouma and Azpi who had the upper-hand against the likes of their front 3.
Azpilicueta doesn't win the first header but it falls to Zouma who plays it out from the back. I really liked this press and it was very effective against United when they played 3atb.
Our pressing in midfield was basically Jovacic vs Fred x Matic. They tried to play out from the back and they failed but when we did, they had no chance and I'll tell you just why.
Fred and Matic could've done the same thing and pressed Kovacic and Jorginho but they didn't even try. First because Kovacic is great at handling the press and secondly because they had no clue. The only players pressing for United we the front three. Our back 3...
with the pivot vs there front 3 created a 5 vs 3 scenario when we were building from the back which gave us a massive advantage. Here is an example...
I still remember this was the game just after we lost to Chris Wilder's side 3-0 and it looked as if Lampard had learnt his lesson and maybe took a few ideas. Overlapping CB's.

(Unfortunately I couldn't find an example when I was re-watching the game but I just remember it )
Another way we got the ball up the field was Caballero playing long balls to Giroud who lived off those balls all game. He's the definition of a target man.I thought Maguire would give him a challenge since he did the job in a low block at Leicester but I was ❌Here's an example.
A good friend of mine @mufc__sam gave me his predicted line-up's and helped with the thread. Give him a follow !!
How I think we should Line-Up: If they play 4-2-3-1

Option 1 (Strong Team)

I chose Ziyech and Pulisic for obvious reasons. Ziyech's off the ball press is so underrated. Giroud as the target man and just in case it's a low block I'd like him to start. The rest is pretty obvious.
From a tactical perspective I believe a 3-4-3 would be a good idea as I have a gut feeling United will want to carry their form from the last game by implementing the same tactics and formation as the PSG game.
(This is if they play the same formation against us and against psg)
