I was asked what I wish I knew in my 1st year of grad school recently for @DukePsychNeuro. I talked about assembling an A-team of mentors for your many goals & interests.

But I've been thinkin' about what other tidbits I wish someone had told me.đŸ€”And I have 2 addendum! 1/5
1⃣ Guard and grow the skill of feeling vicarious joy. 😍

Being able to celebrate others' professional victories whole-heartedly will make grad school, etc. so much better. It'll nurture more authentic relationships with your fellow superstars, and give you more reasons to smile!
2⃣ Take any excuse to celebrate. đŸ„‚

I remember finishing a prelim I was super proud of, and immediately switching to thinking about everything I was "so behind" on. đŸ˜© Not optimal! 3/5
If you did something meaningful, mark it. Treat yourself to a nice meal, go on a trip, host a dinner party/picnic w the people you love -- whatever you're tempted to put off until you've worked or done "enough."

(And you'll probably be more ~productive~ long-term anyway...) 4/5
This thread reveals me as a combination of humanist❀ epicureanđŸ„˜, and idealist🌏, I think. Your mileage may vary with these ideas, especially if your professional goals are different from mine! 5/5
