I’m going to do a thread about the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) and why we all need to put pressure on our legislators to swing into action;
For starters, NASS is vested with powers to make laws for the peace, order and good governance of the Federation. Furthermore, NASS also has broad oversight functions and is empowered to establish committees to scrutinise bills and the conduct of government officials
In the exercise of their functions, the National Assembly often works in smaller units known as Committees. Some general functions of NASS include:
• Initiation and Consideration of bills
• Oversight of the Executive*
• Constituency Representation*
• Investigating government policy
• Reviewing and approving government budget and
expenditure
Notice how I placed an asterisk (*) next to bullet points 2&3 above… This is because the primary functions of each individual legislator is to;
• Make laws pertaining to issues affecting public interest
• Representing the opinions & interest of their constituents and,
• Overseeing government Ministries, Departments and Agencies
I could ramble on about how much power and responsibility NASS has but for now the goal here is to educate and enlighten. If we seek justice for the events of 20.10.2020, we must start my holding the NASS member from Lagos to account
Here are all the NASS members (Senators and Reps) from Lagos state
You have a right to to complain and take your grievances to your representatives… go to http://www.nassnig.org  to find all their contact details (email and mobile number) APPLY PRESSURE!!
For avoidance of doubt, below is a screen grab from the NASS website
