Debunking common myths about Taylor's re-record and re-release of her old albums. A very important thread so you don't clown too hard.
She IS NOT secretly re-recording her albums right now. She legally cannot do so until November 1. She is probably doing scheduling and possibly rehearsing. But she can't step into a studio and start recording until November 1.
This one is hard to hear (even for me) but Taylor will NOT be re-releasing old merch. All of the designs/photos for that are still owned by Big Machine. They will still own the rights to that. She may do new photoshoots and new merch, but the old ones are probably gone forever.
This process might take longer than you want. If she wants the songs to sound EXACTLY the same, she needs to get the same producers. This includes people like Nathan Chapman and Max Martin. And producers are in high demand. So scheduling might affect the re-recording timeline.
From the above tweet, you can also see why it will be VERY EXPENSIVE. She has to book studios, producers, mixers, everything. If she does photoshoots, that will be more money. And that's probably why...
I predict there will be no new music videos. Those cost millions of dollars and take tons of time. Plus it's even more difficult now because of COVID. Even montages with old footage is out the window if Big Machine owns it.
If there are music videos, they will be very simple. But honestly, I don't see it happening. Remember, this whole thing is gonna cost A TON of $$ And she is doing this so she can license her music, which people already know about. That's the goal - not winning VMAs.
This is a financial gamble for Taylor. Other musicians have tried to do this and their re-records have NOT been successful. But as Swifties, we really have to support her new music A LOT. From @RollingStone
Also, in terms of promo => there is a chance that there will be a lot less, kind of like folklore. Again, this re-recording is for her to own her music to license it HER way. So we have be open-minded and support Taylor, however she wants to do it.
People are asking me why she sold rep merch recently and about the eras merch. I haven't done a lot of digging but maybe 1. A lot of rep merch didn't have photos on it; they were designs. This means Taylor might own the designs vs. merch that used photos owned by BM.
2. Other possibilities: her team was selling leftovers to make room for new stock. Plus rep isn't being re-recorded, so it's a little bit different from her upcoming re-records.
3. The eras merch: Because these are DESIGNS (like someone drew them) and not photos (owned by BM), she owns the right to the design and her likeness.
