Credibility, either through expertise, experience, etc, is vital in sourcing. If that source lies, it is not on the communicator. It might be embarrassing, there might need to be a correction, but the communicator is not “wrong” for using information from a credible source. 1/3
Just because you find out later there’s a lack of integrity, doesn’t mean the source wasn’t credible at the time. Comms ppl cannot control integrity of sources, particularly those within our organizations that are trusted. The statement yesterday was justified. The statement 2/3
Today by @18airbornecorps was exactly what was needed. There was no lying by comms personnel. It’s no different than a comms pro putting out CEO comments that turn out to be false. It’s on the source. 18th PAO corrected the record. It wasn’t all textbook, but it wasn’t “wrong” /3
